Confession–on the Lord’s Prayer

God of grace,
we confess that we are more eager to receive your mercy
than we are to extend your kindness to others.
We ask for what we need
without considering whether we have what someone else needs.
We seek your forgiveness
but hold grudges against others.
We want you to lead us,
but only if you will send us where we want to go.
By your grace, we want to turn this around.
We choose to give you more than we think we can spare;
to forgive even those who have yet to ask for forgiveness;
to follow you wherever you choose to lead us.
Receive our commitment to new life,
in Jesus’ matchless name.

Do you want to be healed?
Yes, but there’s too many problems just seems so hopeless
Do you want to be healed?
Yes, but I don’t want to do the work
Do you want to be healed?
Yes, but someone always seems to be blocking my way
Let us worship the one who makes the path straight, the mountains low, and the valleys high.

What are you looking for?
A better job, a bigger house, a smaller car, my cell phone.
What are you looking for?
A vacation spot, a quiet moment, my coffee mug.
What are you looking for?
Peace, wholeness, love, acceptance…
What are you looking for?
You, Jesus, we are looking for you, but we are too busy to realize it.
Let us worship the One in whom all things are possible.

A Litany of Compassion

I promise to see you as a beloved child of God.
We promise to see each person as a beloved child of God.
I promise to listen to you and not assume I know your story.
We promise to listen to each other and hear your stories.
I promise to love you and support you living your life.
We promise to love each other and support each one in living our own lives.
Let us embody the words of 1 John 4:11.
“Friends, since God loves us so much, we also ought to love one another.” Amen.

POP–unshakeable foundation

 Prayers of the People (based on Psalm 41) 

O God, our unshakeable foundation,

hear us as we offer our prayers for all who are afflicted.

 

We pray for those who are poor and in need,

that you would deliver them in the time of trouble

and grant  abundant joy.

We pray on behalf of the world: Come, Holy Spirit!

 

We pray for those who are sick or injured,

and for all who minister to them,

that the blessings of health and wholeness would be made real.

We pray on behalf of the world: Come, Holy Spirit!

 

We pray for those who are near death,

or who mourn the loss of loved ones today.

Teach us to rightly remember those who have gone ahead of us,

and help us to entrust our lives to you even in death.

We pray on behalf of the world: Come, Holy Spirit!

 

We pray for those who face hostility, violence,

or broken relationships in their everyday life.

We pray for our enemies, calling upon your steadfast mercy.

We pray on behalf of the world: Come, Holy Spirit!

 

O Lord, you hold us fast,

and you lift us up forever by the power of your Holy Spirit.

Therefore we pray with boldness,

joining together in the prayer Christ taught, saying:
