Anytime

confession: way, truth, life

One:           Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Way.

All:       You call us to walk with you, but we prefer other ways, which seem just as good.

      Your way is difficult, and requires sacrifice of status, money, and power,

      while other ways offer us a good life filled with plenty.

      Forgive us when we choose the good life instead of your abundant life.

One:     Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Truth.

 All:       But your truth contradicts everything we know about economies and institutions,

      so we close our minds and hearts to the suffering our truths inflict on others

      and on creation.

      Forgive us when we accept lies as truth.

~silence~

One:     Lord Jesus Christ, you are the Life.

 All:       Your life is the light of all people, but we prefer to put boundaries around life,

      believing some lives are more valuable, some ways of living are more acceptable,

      some lives cannot be tolerated.

      Forgive us when we restrict your life-giving to our rules.

dedication: what little we offer

Holy God, you are the giver of every good gift, and you ask for our whole-hearted faithfulness in return. We know that these offerings we make are just a token, a small piece of what you deserve and what you desire. We trust that you will take what little we have to offer and multiply it into blessings for your whole world, for we give it in sincere praise, as a symbol of our love and faith, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

CTW: come to this place

One:    Come to this time of worship, praising God with your whole spirit.

All:     We come, voices and hands lifted up to the Lord.

One:    Come to this place of prayer, seeking God with your whole heart.

All:     We come, ready to hear God’s word.

One:    Come to this community of faith, loving God with your whole life.

All:     We come to be transformed into the living Body of Christ.

prayer: love deep and wide

Note:  Two voices can do the call and response rather than a congregational response.

Leader:            Lord, Your love is deep and wide:  a love that covers us even when we wander into the wilderness becoming hungry and thirsty.

People:            Nothing can tear us from the grip of Your mighty love.

Leader:            Jesus, Your love is fierce and strong:  a love that is the bread of life satisfying our hunger and the living water quenching our thirst.

People:            Nothing can tear us from the grip of Your mighty love.

Leader:            Spirit, Your love is sweet and wild:  a love leads our hearts to repentance as we cry out, “Lord, help!”

People:            Nothing can tear us from the grip of Your mighty love.

Leader:            Lord, You will not accuse nor will You condemn those who turn to You.   May our hearts be humble as we rest in the saving power of Your Name.

For many reasons

from many places

carrying wrongs and rights

some unsure

some very certain

each with a story

we are called

to be loved and to love

to see and be seen

to be made and re-made,

perspective shifted

spirits moved

bodies in motion

to be transformed into the body of Christ,

ready to help God transform the world.
