dedication: first fruits

a perfect prayer of dedication for tax time or stewardship season…

 

Holy God, we give you thanks for the many blessings you bestow upon us.  We ask that you might bless the small portion that we return to you—the first fruits of that which we receive.  We ask that you might use your heavenly power to multiply our gifts, so that we may see good work done both in this church and in the world, on your behalf.  Amen.

call to confession / declaration of grace: in the midst of the song

Call to Confession:

Even in the midst of great joy and celebration,
we know that our lives don’t always reflect God’s intentions…
So please join me in the prayer of confession, printed in the bulletin,
followed by a moment of silent reflection and personal confession…

Declaration of Grace:

This is good news:

The song does not ever have to end…
the joy does not ever have to be forgotten…
and the celebration does not ever have to fade…
because God’s grace does not ever stop surrounding us…
loving us…
healing us…
and making us new, each and every day!

So let’s continue to sing and give thanks to God!

eucharist: creativity

This entire Eucharist liturgy is sung, with improvisation line by line. Each line is repeated by the congregation back to the cantor.

Christ is here
The Spirit is with us
We lift our hearts
And give thanks!

Come to the Table. Be Fed.
With knowledge, with wisdom.
Just as you are.
Come to the Table. Eat.
Come to the Table. Drink.

Hungry for all sorts of things.
Thirsty for even more.
Come to the Table. Eat.
Come to the Table. Drink.

You are invited.
Let Jesus feed you.
Come to the Table. Eat.

In a beginning
God was.

God is.

Wisdom. Knowledge.
at this Table.

To feed each other.

We give thanks.

CTW: all that has breath

Somewhere, in the course of writing a playful Call To Worship for use with an opening rendition of “O Sing to the Lord” (#472 in the Presbyterian Hymnal, Westminster/John Knox Press, 1990) involving all of the instruments listed, this somehow ended up sounding as if it was written by a famous doctor who writes books for children.

Let’s give thanks to God…right here…where we are!
Let’s give thanks with Piano…Percussion…Guitar!
Tambourines…King Klaves…Cowbells…and Cabasas…
Guiros…Castanets…Egg Shakers…Maracas!
Let’s dance if we want…
Let’s sing every chord…
Let all that has breath…give thanks to the LORD!

dedication: in giving we are fed

Faithful and Generous God, we share this evening that which we are able, knowing that it is just a small portion of all that we have received.  We pray that you will see these offerings used to benefit those in need, that they might be fed in body, mind, and spirit.  We know that in the very act of giving, we ourselves are fed.  We thank you for the opportunity to share our gifts, and we ask that you would inspire us to be ever more generous, as you are abundantly generous to us.  In Jesus’ name we pray.  Amen.
