CTW: God is a baker

One:    God is a baker, providing an abundance that surpasses our hopes,

All:     We come to give praise to the One who feeds and nourishes us with love.

One:    God mixes and kneads, bringing together many to create one.

All:     We come to be re-created, many grains into one loaf, broken for the world.

One:    God is a baker who provides for the hungry, and calls us to do the same.

All:     We come to be strengthened to feed and nourish others.

One:    God offers us the bread of life, mysterious in its brokenness that makes us whole.

All:     We come to worship the Baker who is the Bread of Life.

confession: confined

All:     You are a God whose very being is community, and you call us into relationship with you and one another. You long to take up residence in our lives, in our bodies, in our churches. We confess that we simultaneously want much less than that, and much more. When we confine you to an intellectual belief, forgive us. When we live as if our relationship with you affects only the afterlife, forgive us. When we insist that your love can be earned and lost, forgive us.

One:    Come to us again, O God, in the ordinary stuff of life, and remind us to seek your face.
All:     We pray in the name of Jesus, bread of life and light of the world. Amen.

confession: misplaced passion

Glorious God, you are everywhere present, and yet so often we try to confine you within our walls. We confess that we have believed some spaces, and some people, and some objects, to be holier than others. We confess that we have obscured your presence, ignored your Spirit, and focused our attention on ourselves. We confess that we have often worshipped our buildings rather than you.

Forgive our misplaced passion, and flood this place with your glory once again—and not only this place, but us, your people. Fill us with your Spirit that we may be your living Temple, offering sanctuary to your world.

One:  We gather in this holy place, lifting our voices in praise.

All:  We come to offer ourselves, heart and soul and mind and strength.

One:  We seek God’s presence, opening ourselves to God’s living Word.

All:  We come to be filled by the Holy Spirit, breath of all creation.

One:  Wherever two or three are gathered, Christ is among us.

All:  Let us worship the living God together.

confession: the corner of easy choices

Call to Reconciliation
Despite our foolish and angry words, God continues to speak of mercy to us.
Despite our best efforts to be faithless in our living, God remains faithful
in keeping the promise to forgive us and restore us to wholeness.  Let us
confess our sins to God, so that God’s hope and grace might endure in our
brokenness.

Unison Prayer of Confession
God beyond borders, we know that on our way to worship, we may not have
noticed the exiles in our neighborhoods. We admit how easy it is for us to
wander down the streets of temptation, pausing at the corner of easy
choices. We fall silent in the presence of those who speak words of anger
and hate. We tolerate a culture that suspects all who are different from us.
Have mercy on us, O God, for surely you take the side of justice. Open
our hearts to all the wonders you are performing in our lives. You gift us
with those of other cultures, that our lives might be blessed.  You send us
friends out of places we least expect, that our community might be enriched.

You call us to be generous with our blessings, so others might be graces
with the gift of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Silence is kept

Assurance of Pardon
L:  God challenges us, God encourages us. God confronts us, and God accepts
us. God works wonders in our midst and gives us the eyes, the hearts, the
souls to see such miracles.
P:  God forgives us, God guides us through the wilderness of the world, God
leads us home.  Thanks be to God. Amen.
