Sunday’s Coming: working toward April 22

We’re getting a bit of a late start this week…whether you’re on a roll already or just waking up from the post-easter-week-vacation/retreat/nap, join in as we create for this Sunday!

Perhaps you’ll be walking on the road to Emmaus this week.

Perhaps you’re pondering our status as children of God.

Maybe all your words this week are different ways to cry out “Answer me, O God!”

Or are you brave enough to tackle Peter’s post-first-healing sermon?

Or perhaps you’re contemplating Earth Day and thinking of ways to explore care of creation in worship. Or are you in an Easter Season Series?

Whatever your direction, drop in to the comments and leave your ideas, whether they be a word or an image or  complete liturgy, hymn ideas or a different text or a phrase you can’t get out of your head. You never know when your small contribution might spark someone else’s creativity, and that is what we’re here for!

Sunday’s Coming: working toward April 15

Have you ever noticed that Sunday just keeps coming? You would think we could get a tiny reprieve after Holy Week and Easter and all their various services, but once again…Sunday’s coming.

But first: how was Easter? What worked? What could use some tweaking? (If you put it in the comments here, then next year when you click for “easter resources” this conversation will still be there!)

So, what will you do with this NEXT Sunday? Will it be a low Sunday? A back-to-normal Sunday? A communion Sunday? Any thoughts on how to continue the Easter season when most people think it’s over now?

Perhaps you’ll go for the traditional Thomas reading–was he truly any more of a doubter than anyone else?

Maybe you’ll be contemplating what it means, as Easter people (and as the ones who are left after the big crowds come and go) to live together in unity.

How about pondering what that first church community was like the week after the big sermon?

Or starting with a sermon already printed in the Bible, full of good news and exhortation about living in light and love?

Thursday and Friday

Okay, now that the Easter bulletin is done (hahaha!), it’s time to turn our attention to Thursday and Friday. Do you have services on Thursday and Friday, one or the other, or none? Daytime and/or evening? A meal together? Communion? Footwashing? Stripping the sanctuary?

What kind of mood are you looking to set? What kind of theme are you following, if any (for example: this year’s Maundy Thursday theme here is “extravagant love poured out”)? How do you plan to explore these stories at the center of our faith?

These services are often a time when we can be a little bit out-of-the-box, so let’s create together!

Sunday’s Coming: working towards Easter…

This week on LL we’ll be working sort of “backwards-ish” through Holy Week. Today we’ll be thinking about what we need for the “big” Easter services–things we need to print in a bulletin–as well as thinking through Easter Sunrise, for those of us who do that. (watch for a sunrise post later today, when we’ll be far more awake than we will Sunday morning at 6-7-8am!

Tomorrow we’ll be creating for Friday and Thursday. Wednesday be sure to stop in for conversation about an Easter Vigil.

SO: Easter morning’s big service. What time is your big service? What mood are you going for? How do you decorate? Which Easter story are you reading (Mark? John? one of the others?)? If you’re going with Mark, are you stopping at the shorter ending or adding one of the longer endings?

What creative elements will be part of your Easter service? What very traditional elements will you have? (We always end with the Hallelujah Chorus.) What new thing would you like to try to introduce this year, or what’s something unusual you hope to convey? (besides that someone rose from the dead, which is pretty unusual in itself!)

you don’t print everything…

…some things aren’t printed in the bulletin, right?

This week we have lots of things not being printed, because the service is strange. So I’ll be looking for communion prayers, a prayer of dedication, and maybe even a new way to invite people to passing the peace right before communion (instead of in our usual right-after-confession spot). Some of us will need prayers for illumination and calls to confession and invitations to offering…
