Holy God, we confess that sometimes we do not like the mirror that your word holds up to us. We prefer to explain things away rather than admit our own wrongdoing. We would rather be upset by how things used to be, without pausing to realize how things are. We distance ourselves from “those people” and assume that you have done the same. We confess that we still place our limited human understanding above your love and grace. We confess that we sometimes sacrifice our fellow people, and your creation, to our self-centered insistence that our way is right. Forgive us. Open our ears to hear you speaking, and our hearts to embrace your purpose. Amen. ~silence~
